EastEnders says goodbye to one of its most iconic characters ever this Christmas, as Mick Carter bows after nine years.

We don’t cry, we swear.

Danny Dyer, 44, decided to leave the show after nearly a decade as Vic’s lovable landlord, and soon after the news broke, bosses began piecing together an explosive ending, befitting a character like Mick.

This year saw Mick enter into a relationship with Janine Butcher (Charlie Brooks), who manipulated and wormed her way into his heart after ruining his marriage to soul mate Linda (Kelly Bright).

However, Janine will face the music on Christmas Day, as the truth about her lies and crimes is revealed in a truly unmissable edition of the BBC One drama series, which sets the wheel for Mick’s final scenes.

“When I joined the program back in January this year, I was already aware that Danny was unfortunately leaving us,” said EastEnders boss Chris Clinshaw. We felt it was only right that after nine epic years, Mick Carter gave us a legendary ending.

Danny first appeared as Mick Carter, the Vic’s owner, on Christmas Day 2013, followed by Kelly as his beloved wife Linda. During his time, Danny appeared in a total of 1,150 episodes, had 117 Doof Doofs and we honestly never had enough time to do a Cockney count!

Mick Carter has been involved in some of the show’s most memorable storylines that are too many to mention right now. Everyone seems to have a different favourite.

I am personally very sad to see Danny leave Walford and everyone at work is very sorry to see Danny go.

Same thing, Chris. same.

Meanwhile, Danny said he thought long and hard about his decision to leave and even wondered if he was making the right decision, but ultimately decided he was.

The 45-year-old, like producer Chris, was adamant that Mick’s story ended in explosive fashion.

“I wanted it to be a fitting ending,” said actor Danny.

The question is: will Mick make it out of Walford alive?

EastEnders broadcasts these scenes on Christmas Day at 9:25pm on BBC One.
