‘Our players can learn a lot from him’: Manchester United manager Eric ten Hag opens up on the success of the end session put on by club icon Robin van Persie… as he admits Garnacho and Pellestri ‘loved’ working with the former striker
Erik ten Hag has revealed how successful Robin van Persie’s training sessions at Manchester United have been after being invited back.
Club icon Van Persie has returned to Carrington to work with the United manager as he prepares to move into management, and has held final training with youngsters Alejandro Garnacho and Facundo Pellestri.
Ten Hag told United’s website that the wingers “loved” working with the Dutchman, 39, and admitted they “could learn a lot from him”.

Ten Hag revealed that Alejandro Garnacho (center) and Facundo Pellestri (right) “loved” working with the retired Dutch striker – and admitted they “could learn a lot” from the 39-year-old.
He said: “I think it’s always great to have icons like that. While he’s done fantastically here at Manchester United, I think he’s also an icon for the fans and our players can learn a lot from him.
His experience, his skill and he did some training with our strikers, they loved it, to share with him. We want to help Robin van Persie.
He’s now planning a managerial career, so we’re giving him the chance to look around and get experiences and hopefully help him build his career.
He’s really a fanatic, and he’s really banking on the fact that he wants to be a manager. He’s making the right moves, and one day he’ll be a manager.

Van Persie took to social media to thank Ten Hag, 52, for giving him the opportunity after the session.
After his visit to Carrington, Van Persie – targeting his coaching badges – took to social media to thank Ten Hag for the opportunity, posting a picture of himself with United first-team boss Benny McCarthy.
He wrote on Instagram: ‘Thanks for the warm welcome Manchester United and Erik ten Hag. We had a great time at Carrington taking a trip down memory lane and learning the ropes from one of the best coaches in modern football.
Van Persie, assistant coach to Dutch club Feyenoord, retired in 2019. He won the Premier League title in Sir Alex Ferguson’s final season at the club, scoring 30 goals in all competitions after signing for £24m from Arsenal in August 2012.
Then he left Old Trafford for Turkish club Fenerbahce in the summer of 2015, a year before his contract expired, and scored 58 goals in 105 games in all competitions.
