Peep show star Dame Sophie Winklemann pays tribute to royals after Netflix truth bombs Sussexes

Dame Sophie Winklemann may have thrown a veiled swipe at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in her Christmas Day column as she looks forward to the royals’ visit today.

Lady Sophie, who is married to the Duke of Kent’s son, Lord Frederick Windsor, said she “cherished” her “growing closeness” to some of the senior royals, as she paid tribute to the late Queen.

Writing in The Spectator, she may have criticized the Sussexes for their recent Netflix docuseries, and criticized the “fictional” TV series that sought to “undermine.”

It comes after the royal family was rocked by a series of hurtful allegations made in the TV series that aired on the streaming platform earlier this month.

Lady Sophie has revealed that she and her husband, Freddie, will meet her parents on Christmas Day – before embarking on a short tour with some of the senior members of the royal family.

She wrote: ‘We’ll see my dad on Christmas Day and some of my husband Freddie’s relationships in different locations.

“I cherish my growing closeness to senior royals who are hard working, unrelenting, and encouraging in the face of cruel and brutal media attention, criticism, lies, undermining, and fictional TV shows – always so good to me that I am honored to know them.”

The actress and Peep Show star married the royal in 2009 and has been a supporter of the company ever since.

The pass, which may be a reference to The Crown on Netflix, or Harry and Meghan, comes after the couple blamed other senior members of the royal family for their departure to the US, including the Prince of Wales.

Harry & Meghan, directed by Liz Garbus, is the first project to emerge from the multi-year deal the couple signed with the streaming giant in 2020, shortly after they announced they were stepping down as working members of the royal family.

Prince Harry has accused his brother, the Prince of Wales (left, pictured with his children Princess Charlotte and Prince George, and wife Kate Middleton), of speaking out against him and “yelling” at him on his Netflix series

In the series, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex claim royal courtiers ‘banned’ Harry from seeing his grandmother, the Queen, after they decided to step back as a senior member of the royal family.

Harry also said it was “heartbreaking” to see his brother’s communications office “copy” their father’s behavior by “sharing” stories with the press.

Harry said his brother had authorized aides to file a warrant against him and claimed their father, Charles, had lied to his face at the same meeting. Presumably, the Queen failed to intervene because her “ultimate mission” was to protect “the Institution”.

There have been suggestions that the aging monarch was being manipulated by family members and courtiers for their own ends, thwarting his attempts to meet her to discuss his and Meghan’s plans to quit working from the royal family.

He also claimed that his brother, Prince William, respectively “scared” him over their decision to leave, saying he yelled and screamed at him. The couple also said that the royal family refused to see Harry and Meghan together due to the breakdown in relations between the couple and the institution.

The chain has also accused Buckingham Palace aides of using Meghan as a “scapegoat” to divert the media away from damaging stories about other royals.

The company has so far decided not to comment on any of the claims made in the six-part series.

The senior royals have shown a united front in the days since, getting together just hours after the launch of Kate’s Together At Christmas concert at Westminster Abbey last week.

Continuing his calendar of royal events, King Charles made a brave face while visiting the Jewish Community Center in London just hours after the series’ second installment aired.

In addition to calling out Harry and Meghan, Lady Sophie made a moving tribute to the late Queen as she discussed her troubled relationship with the Church.

Describing her parents’ pasts intertwined with religion, she said she “didn’t have a direct path to God,” but added, “Her Majesty The Queen’s unwavering faith in God inspired her to continue to pursue it.”

Dame Sophie was “fascinated” by such a commitment, which made her “compelled” to continue exploring her faith: “The unwavering faith of the late Queen fascinated and moved me. How does one put aside rational thinking and science and believe in something so metaphorical and insane?”
