Pele’s son arrives to see the stricken Brazil legend in hospital with his grandchildren

Pele’s family has gathered at the hospital as his condition worsens – his daughter vowing to stay by his side while the great Brazilian player receives hospital care as his cancer progresses.

The 82-year-old man, who had his colon removed in September 2021, was admitted to the Yisraelta Albert Einstein Hospital in São Paulo on November 29.

Earlier this week, a statement from the hospital said Pele required further care “related to renal and cardiac dysfunction”.

Pele’s daughter Kelly Nascimento has confirmed that his family will spend Christmas in hospital with the Brazil legend

Pele’s daughter, Kelly Nascimento, has confirmed that his family will spend Christmas in hospital with him – and his daughter has been joined by his son and grandchildren to be by his side.

On Saturday, she posted a picture on Instagram showing her sitting next to one of Pele’s sons, Edinho, and two of his children in hospital.

“He (Edson) is here,” Kelly Nascimento wrote alongside the photo, adding in the hashtag, “I’m not leaving, and no one is going to get me out of here.”

She also previously posted a gif of her dad in a hospital bed as they cherish “one more night together” as he continues his battle against cancer.

Pele, 82, has been battling colon cancer since September 2021 and was hospitalized on November 29 for a re-evaluation of his treatment.

We’re still here, fighting and believing. Another night together, his daughter Kelly Nascimento wrote on Instagram, along with a photo of Pele cuddling in bed. Pele’s granddaughter Sofia can also be seen in the photo.

Along with the gif, a video was shared showing Pele sleeping on his bed while the family spoke to him.

Pele is spending Christmas at the Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo and there has been an outpouring of emotions in recent weeks, with stars like Neymar and Kylian Mbappe driving good wishes for the ‘king’.

Nascimento said in a recent Instagram post that the support of her father’s fans was a “huge comfort” to him.

She wrote: Your love for him and your stories and prayers are such a comfort because we know we are not alone.

Let’s turn this room into a Sambadrome (just kidding), let’s even make caipirinhas (not kidding!!).

The hospital provided an update on Pele’s condition earlier this week, explaining that he now requires care for heart and kidney failure.

The update from the medical staff read: ‘Accepted since November 29 for re-evaluation of chemotherapy for colon tumor and treatment of respiratory infection, Edson Arantes do Nascimento presents with progression of oncological disease and requires greater care with regard to renal and cardiac impairments.

“The patient remains in the hospital in a common room, under the necessary care of the medical team.”

Pele is widely considered the greatest player in Brazil’s history and was able to watch his country’s campaign to the World Cup in Qatar, despite being in hospital.

He burst onto the world stage as a 17-year-old at the 1958 World Cup, helping Brazil achieve the first of their record five successes, before also winning World Cup 1962 and 1970 with the national team.

Concern for Pele accelerated last month when a news report surfaced that he had been transferred to end-of-life care, something his daughters quickly denied.

Speaking to Fantastico about her dad last month, Kelly explained: ‘About three weeks ago he got Covid. He was vaccinated, with all the vaccines, but due to his fragile cancer and chemotherapy treatments, he developed a lung infection.

For this he went to the hospital with pneumonia. Is he serious? It’s dangerous, because at a certain age, it’s curing cancer.

Flavia, his other daughter, went on to explain how the hospital is the best place for Pele to get the care he needs.

She said: In the hospital is the best aid. But he’s not in the intensive care unit, he’s in a regular room. So he is not in danger. As someone with more delicate health, it is best to be in the hospital.

Since then, his condition has become more complicated and his family is now at his bedside as he continues to fight the disease.

After the World Cup Final, Pele posted the following message on his Instagram page

The World Cup was a tournament that Pele was able to follow closely around his treatment, and the 82-year-old also watched the tournament final from his bed.

After praising Brazil, despite their quarter-final exit, he once again took to social media to congratulate Lionel Messi and Argentina after their huge penalty shootout victory over France.

Today, football continues to tell its story, as always, in a captivating way. Messi won his first World Cup, which his career deserves,” Pele wrote on Instagram.

My dear friend Mbappe, he scored four goals in the final. What a gift witnessing this spectacle has been for the future of our sport.
