Messi’s obsession has taken on a whole new meaning since Argentina’s success with the iconic No. 10 player who has been unable to leave his home, due to large numbers of compatriots wanting to congratulate him.
However, the striker received the Mayor of Funes – Ruli Santacroce – at his home to collect the “Brilliant Citizen” plaque for his World Cup achievements in Qatar.
Upon receiving the award, Messi sent a special message to his supporters – thanking them and apologizing for not appearing in public.
“Well,” he said, “we wanted to send our regards to all the people of Funes, Rosario in general.”
We want to thank you for the love you have always shown us, especially now at this time when you just got back from the World Cup.
“Also forgive us because sometimes it’s hard to see everyone, we’re with family and friends for a few days and sometimes it gets complicated.”
